Yay, I finally got my iPhone working in the Great Wall!!

So ever since i got my great wall i have wanted to get my iPhone sound to come through the car speakers without having to upgrade the DVD system.. And I've finally figured it out!! Yay

I feel like a bit of an idiot as it really was simple in the end, just wasn't as straight forward as I'd thought it should be.

All I needed was a 1.5metre 3.5mm stereo cable like this one from officeworks  http://m.officeworks.com.au/mt/www.officeworks.com.au/retail/products/Technology/Cables/35mm-Audio-Cablepatience to figure out the DVD player in the Great Wall.

So here's how I did it, plug your cable into the headset section in your phone, then go ahead and plug the other end of the cable into the little hole in the centre console, that is the aux input.   Turn the car on to red lights so DVD player turns on, now press the "MEDIA" button 3 times or until it gets to the last tab (screen) which is your AUX Screen. Once your there go ahead and select some of your music, start GPS, or favourite radio station on your iPhone and the sound will come out of the cars speaker system.

The tricky bit about this is that you can not get to AUX input on the Great Wall without having the Phone plugged into the car via that stereo cable first!!

We took the x240 to Melbourne over Christmas!

Every second Christmas Scott and I go down to Melbourne 4 Christmas to spend it with his family. It usually takes us 9-10 hours to drive the 1000kms... we don't stop much! No kids makes it much easier! Lol.

So we took the Great Wall x240 for its first big test drive.. Before we did though we had 2 get the car serviced because they require servicing at 1000kms and even though we were only at 450kms we thought we better get it done b4 we go.. Which brings me to a point I want to mention.. We noticed after we had just bought the Great Wall home that there was some rust around the bolts near the petrol cap, also a couple of screws under the back of car were also rusty... So we mentioned it to our dealer and mechanic... When we went to pick up the car after it had been serviced, the mechanic said he needed to put the report into Great Wall before they can fix it! This shocked us for something so minor they said they were unable to do it without permission.. I wonder if its just our dealer?? Paul wakeling are usually pretty good thou.

Anyway, so the car got serviced and we drove it to Melbourne! The trip was smooth, and the car handled the long haul really well. It was really good on petrol too, about 9ltrs per 100kms.

We did notice at the beginning of the trip that a lot of cars were overtaking us.. So we downloaded an app that measured our speed and it appears our speedo is under by about 10kms, we even drove thru speed cameras at the faster speed and it didn't go off. So we will need to get that checked. Another thing we noticed is the headlights were shocking, they light up the bushes to the left of the road more than the road itself!!! Lol .. so we will need to get them realigned, hopefully.

The ride inside was comfortable, only annoying thing is that we could not connect the iphone to the audio system.. the cars USB won't play iPhone and also can only use the Bluetooth for hands free .. So no iPhone thru the car speakers at all :(. We were using the iPhone for GPS and stream live cricket.. Would have been nice to hear it through the awesome car speaker system than the tiny iPhone speakers. Ahh we'll.. may have to look at upgrading the DVD audio system in the near future.

So now our Great Wall has approx 2700ks on it! Survived the first big test no dramas.

just bought a Great Wall x240

Our old commodore vt was just about out of rego.. It had a damaged rear passenger door due to Scott reversing his Toyota ute into it ( long story..) .. Anyway... So we decided to go to Paul wakeling and buy a newer but still used nice commodore ( can u tell already we are Holden fans :) )
Looking around we seen nice cars.. Then our mate mentioned we should look at the Great Wall ...

As soon as we seen it, we loved it... 4wd, sunroof, everything electric, DVD player, leather seats, reversing camera, nice shape, looks good... Brand new$21k. Cheaper than the used commodore we were going to buy... So we took an x240 for a test drive... Easy to handle, not much power.. But was not too bad... So we made the gigantic leap of faith from our much loved commodores to the Great Wall x240!
